Rice terraces

The small town of Sapa, just 38 km from the Chinese border, offers tourists unparalleled attractions – beautiful rice fields. The city itself is located 1,600 meters above sea level and surrounded by the mountains of the Phan Xi Păng massif (called the “Indochina roof”). The region is inhabited by the minorities of Hmong, Dao and Tày, whose colorful costumes and handicrafts are a real decoration of the local villages.

The main attraction of Sapa are trips to nearby settlements, admiring the rice terraces and watching the life of the villagers. It should be noted right away that most of the things are done here special for tourists, because the inhabitants of Sapa and the surrounding area changed their main source of income from agriculture to tourism. Nevertheless, the colorful costumes blend beautifully with the breathtaking views of the rice terraces and it looks really beautiful.

One very important information – you must eat tofu in Sapa. Local restaurants offer tofu in every form and if we order a dish, the chef’s assistant goes to buy fresh cheese and in a few moments brings a huge piece from local producer. We know right away that it will be a fresh dish.
