Scooter tours

Ometepe is a vast island (276 square kilometers) located on Lake Nicaragua. You can get to it only by ships departing from San Jorge, near Rivas. The island itself offers many attractions and is ideal for a longer holiday: there is little traffic here, we have access to the beach everywhere and the views around us could be transferred to postcards.

For a trip around the island, it’s best to rent a scooter, but for people with little experience in off-road riding, it can be a very emotional adventure. While part of the island around the Concepción volcano has paved roads (we can drive even through the airport runway), the other part of the island is a considerable road challenge. The elevations here are considerable, and the roads are mostly damaged, full of holes and cracked old asphalt (between which streams flow), interspersed with long sections of soil and sand. Riding them is a big adventure, but after returning we can find a few more gray hair on our had.

The attractions we recommend are:

Ojo de Agua – A pool complex into the jungle, ideal for cooling off on a hot day. Around the pools is a short trail through the banana plantation, which is also an interesting trip.

Trip to volcanoes – about it in a separate post.

Travel through the small villages over the beaches – taking breaks in the journey we can come across very picturesque corners, which ask you to jump to the water and take a few photos.
