Apartments for the dead

The Chinese cemetery is Manila’s second largest cemetery and an interesting tourist attraction. Here from the beginning of the nineteenth century, are buried citizens from chinise minority on Philipines .

Immediately after crossing the gates of cementary, a local guide offered us services, whose services we were very pleased with. A walk around the necropolis lasted about an hour and without information from our guide it would be only a walk and watching graves accidentally encountered.

The cemetery is a small town with streets and tomb houses, whose furnishings would not be ashamed of any modern home. We have here floors with stairs, toilets, kitchens and even a small pool. All these facilities serve the families of the dead, who often come from China to visit the dead. These visits are combined with a several-day feast in honor of the deceased, for which you need the right infrastructure.

In many tombs we can see souvenirs and favorite things of the deceased, e.g. a decorative chair on which the deceased sat, the picture believes Eiffel, favorite food and drinks … Many tombs have interesting stories, so it’s worth taking this guided tour.

Death is equal for everyone but the tombs reflect the material status of the dead. The richest of them (local industrial tycoons, businessmen, etc.) have tombs reminiscent of luxury villas with palm trees and crystal chandeliers, while the poorer are buried in small simple graves. Some of the tombs are empty and waiting for new owners, because very often families bring the bodies of the dead back to China
