The Scooter city

In Ho Chi Minh City scooters dominate, and 3.5 million of these vehicles are officially registered. It takes a lot of time for new arrivals to learn how to move around the city and especially to move from one side of the road to the other. At every moment of the day and night, a scooter river flows through the streets, into which one has to enter, walk at a steady pace and under no circumstances stop, to safely reach wherever we want.

Ho Chi Minh Cit, former Saigon is a big Asian city, without major attractions to visit. The buildings are very monotonous, we are surrounded by exhaust fumes and scooters everywhere, and is so hot.

One of the more interesting places (for those interested in history) is the American War Museum where you can see the armed conflict seen for us through the eyes of the other party, i.e. the Vietnamese. We find here flying machines: airplanes and helicopters as well as ground equipment such as tanks and armored personnel carriers. It is a real treat to look through the window into the interior of the Chinook transport helicopter.

Inside the museum are exhibitions depicting the bestialities carried out by American soldiers. In the pictures (by the way, very good and mostly taken by the Americans themselves), we can see the executions of civilians, torture and photos of the victims. Pictures are selected without any censorship, which is why they are very “strong” and poignant. The most severe species is the exhibition on deadly chemicals called “agent orange”. It was a highly toxic substance, containing dioxins, which were supposed to cause the jungle to dry out, which sheltered the soldiers of North Vietnam. As it turned out quickly, the “agent orange” works equally destructive to people (effects as after radiation in Chernobyl). In total, more than 10 million gallons of this measure were dropped from the aircraft, and the victims were not only Vietnamese but also US soldiers ( the US government paid astronomical compensation to its citizens). The exhibition presents mainly children who were born deformed after the action of this poison and their difficult fate. This exhibition is definitely for visitors with strong nerves.

In addition to its propaganda message, the museum has interesting collections that are definitely worth paying attention to.
