Glacier Viedma

The Viedma Glacier can only be reached with an organized group and guide. Trips are often canceled due to strong wind and bad weather. The trip to the glacier begins in El Calafate and is divided into three stages: bus access to the lake, boat trip to the glacier and hiking.

The Viedma Glacier is about two kilometers long and has over twenty square kilometers of surface. Patagonian glaciers are the third largest clusters of ice after Antarctica and the Arctic. The glacier is clean only in the central part on its sides you can see heaps of stones and dirt, which the glacier flushes out during its movement deep into the lake. The ice rotation lasts about five hundred years, which means that ice blocks that break off and fall into the water were formed more than five centuries ago!
