Pelican Kingdom

Constitucion is not a very big city, although apparently it has over 40,000 residents. The city survived its ordeal on February 27, 2010, when the earthquake took place, followed by a tsunami (waves reaching up to 15 meters), which completely destroyed Constitucion. Today, when we are walking on the beach, there are signs indicating an escape route in the event of another great wave.

The most interesting place to visit in Constitucion is the shore line and exactly located on it rock formations called Piedra de Iglesia. Granite rocks, subject to sea and wind corrosion, form caves and pillars, which gives shelter to a large population of pelicans.
