Volcano Concepción
First, a few words about the opponent … Concepción volcano (on the island of Ometepe) is 1600 meters high and is the second highest volcano in Nicaragua. It is an active volcano, whose last eruption occurred in 2010.
It’s best to hire a guide for the trip on volcano, because the lack of marked trails and fog on the summit may prevent us from finding the correct way. The expedition starts early in the morning to avoid climbing in the scorching sun for as long as possible.
The first part of the route is narrow corridors in the jungle and muddy, slippery ground … it is very stuffy and a lot of insects but at least we go in the shade.
The second part of the route is a journey in the open, steep up the winding paths and small pebbles. The ground is very loose, so you need to be especially careful when going down.
The reward for difficult climbing is a nice view of the entire island and lake (if there are no clouds). Due to the sun and high elevation, the route to the volcano can be classified as dificult.
