Gifts of the Ocean

If we are connoisseurs of fresh fish, seafood and good wine, Chile will definitly charme us. The ocean along the long shoreline abounds in unique species of fish, molluscs, algae and crustaceans, which are the basis of Chilean cuisine. In every coastal town you will find a fish market at once with adjacent restaurants that serve fresh products. The most popular dishes include fried fish, paila marina (fish and seafood soup) and ceviche (as a snack). However most Chileans, , buy freshly caught fish to grill during evening meetings with family and friends.

Many climatic zones mean that Chilean food products are very diverse. Chile is also a global power in the production of potatoes as well as other vegetables and fruits. The traditional potato-based dish is curanto, which is a spectacular dish on the island of Chiloe. A very popular side dish (or as a starter) is the pebre vegetable salad, consisting mainly of tomatoes and fresh coriander.

In addition, our culinary discovery was a hot dog with guacamole … and chicken sushi served in one of the restaurants in Chilean Patagonia.
