Carratera Austral (South Highway) is national road number 7, connecting the provinces of Los Lagos and Aisen. This road is 1240 km long and the surrounding area is very sparsely populated, with about 100,000 inhabitants (including about half in the largest city of Coyhaique). Road number 7 has many advantages, above all beautiful views and very little car traffic. For cyclists it is quite demanding (apart from weather conditions) due to many steep hills. Despite this, traveling this way is a great adventure and a feeling of freedom.
